Happy V-Day

Saturday, February 14th, 2009

V for Voltaic that is. It’s been a while since my favorite artist released anything that made me Eek with joy. Although I can safely say that this announcement made me do just that. Björk will be releasing Voltaic, the celebration of Volta and the Volta live show. Now Volta was not my favorite Björk album, but it had it’s shining moments (Wanderlust). But like my 10 year old brother said when he heard the studio version of Declare Independence, “I like it way better live.” Agreed. The Volta live shows where epic in execution and made the songs from Volta sound much much better than their laptop produced counterparts. Now no release date is confirmed (around March they say) but there will be a standard version, deluxe, and vinyl deluxe versions. It’s safe to say if you’re at all interested in this you’re going to go the full deluxe route like me.

DISC ONE (AUDIO) Songs From The Volta Tour Performed Live At Olympic Studios – This will probably be played on my stereo way more than the original disc.
DISC TWO (DVD) The Volta Tour Live In Paris, Live in Reykjavik – Lush and colorful costumes, lights and fireworks galore. This may be better or on par with her Live in Cambridge DVD.
DISC THREE (DVD) The Volta Videos and the video competition – I’m guessing the Volta Videos are those “Making Of…” youtube videos she released before the record dropped. The music videos are nothing special. The Wanderlust (can you tell I like this song?) video was the only shining star to emerge video-wise.
DISC FOUR (CD) The Volta Mixes – YES! The remixes from Volta are wilder and way more exciting than the originals.

Björk Sparks Up Another Video

Sunday, September 21st, 2008

The video’s that Björk has been releasing for Volta have been hit-or-miss. Unlike the videos from Homogenic and Post, which were fun, sexy, and innovative. The Volta videos have been somewhat boring and lacking that creative spirit that she is known for (Michel! WTF?). That is until the Wanderlust video, which knocked me off my feet. Her latest video, The Dull Flame of Desire, featuring Antony Hegarty, seems to keep with the intended atmosphere of the song. I like it. I mean, it’s no Bachlorette. But it reminds me of the simplicity and romance of the Vespertine videos. I approve.
