Water & Bodies (ex-Kaddisfly) finally released their much anticipated self-titled EP this past week. They put art, integrity and diversity into a sleek tapestry that blends progressive, aural collages into a rock based concept. Each song it’s own story, they’ve drawn comparison to everyone from Quicksand to Sparta, while remaining uniquely Water & Bodies. For them, the journey is more important than the destination.
You can purchase the album here, which will be available on vinyl in the near future. You can also catch them on tour in their home state and opening for the mighty Far…

Water & Bodies – Something I Can Grasp
Alright! I can finally go nuts about this record that I’ve been listening to the past few weeks; Jeremy Enigk’s OK Bear. It’s fantastic! I would say this is a greatest hits (although it’s not) of Jeremy Enigk’s work. The record combines the brilliant songwriting of his Sunny Day Real Estate days (April Storm) with the raw emotion of his previous solo material (Vale Oso). You can even catch a little Fire Theft in the poppier songs (Late Of Camera) on the record. I am very happy with this one and it definitely will end up on the End of Year list for me. The record came out this past Tuesday so run to your nearest record store and pick it up.
Other records to check out that came out this week are Bloc Party’s Intimacy Remixed which can be heard in full here, the beautiful Hanne Hukkelberg released Blood from a Stone, the physical release of Papercuts’ You Can Have What You Want came out, and San Francisco based experimental alt-country band Trainwreck Riders released The Perch (highly recommended).
Jeremy Enigk – April Storm

Hanne Hukkelberg – Midnight Sun Dream
Trainwreck Riders – Safety Of A Back

I won’t be going, but if I was, these would be my highlights. Now I know it will be impossible to see all of these bands/artists, I know how SXSW works. However, the SXSW website has a plethora of free songs for you to sample to assist you in your decision. If you are not going, go ahead and download them anyway; there’s obviously a reason why these bands were picked to showcase their music this year.

Tonight is my 4th Sean Hayes show. The second time seeing him perform in San Francisco. I love seeing him here mainly because it’s his stomping grounds and he seems the most comfortable when he performs here. Plus this is where I found out about him. Sean Hayes’ sound is almost like a cross between Bob Dylan and the fun side of PJ Harvey. It’s addictive, playful, and quite delightful. His music paints the Northern California landscape so well and is my preferred soundtrack to driving along the coast. His latest record, Flowering Spade, is far from your average Starbucks indie-folk; it’s more honest and raw, while still keeping it’s danceability.
Sean Hayes will be playing with the Trainwreck Riders (who sound like a mix of Modest Mouse and The Felice Brothers) at the Independent in San Francisco tonight at 8pm. Join me!
Sean Hayes – Boom Boom Goes The Day

Sean Hayes – No No Guantanamo
The Trainwreck Riders – In And Out Of Love
