This Week In Bay Area Live Shows: March 1st – 7th

Sunday, March 1st, 2009

Are you enjoying Noise Pop Festival? Well if you live out here in Bay Area you should or a least should have. You see, Noise Pop wraps up today with No Age at the Bottom of the Hill and Les Savy Fav and The Mae Shi at the Mezzanine. I unfortunately have been missing out due to a extremely busy work schedule. But what I’ve been hearing from The Bay Bridged, ipickmynose and Hippies are Dead, it’s been going very well. The rest of this week looks promising as well. Particularly this Thursday with M.Ward at the Palace of Fine Arts Theatre, theSTART at the Bottom of the Hill, Soilwork at Slim’s, Pop Levi at The Independent, Cut Off Your Hands at Popscene, and The Limousines at the Rickshaw Stop. Another good week in the Bay Area. See you out there!

The Bad Plus + Yoshi’s = A Good Show

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

I’ve only been to one jazz show since I’ve been here in the Bay Area, and it was to see some act I can’t remember the name of at Pearl’s with a couple of friends. This time around I know exactly who I’m seeing and I’m quite excited about it. The Bad Plus is not your average jazz act. I guess you could label them as a avant-garde jazz with rock and pop influences.  The band have recorded versions of songs by Nirvana, Aphex Twin, Blondie, Ornette Coleman, Pixies, Rush, Tears for Fears, Neil Young, David Bowie, Interpol, and Black Sabbath. However, they are not just a jazz cover band, they perform their own beautiful pieces that remind you of your favorite jazz greats. So have your self a listen or check out one of their upcoming shows.
