Kata Rokkar Goes To Hawaii

Saturday, February 6th, 2010

Today, I fly out to Honolulu to see my brother. While I’m out there I’ll be seeing Andrew Bird at the Pipeline Cafe and trying to see what kind of music scene #50 has to offer. I’ll be checking in from time to time but don’t expect that much updates.

If you’re in the Bay Area this week though, check out Daedelus, Nosaj Thing, and Jogger at the Mighty tonight, St. Vincent and Wildbirds & Peacedrums at at the Great American Music Hall and Editors and The Antlers at the Warfield on Monday, Vivian Girls, Best Coast, and The Bananas at the Bottom of the Hill on Tuesday, Eyedea & Abilities, dosh, and Grieves at the Bottom of the Hill on Wednesday, Wild Beasts, Still Life Still, and the Magic Bullets at the Independent on Thursday, and The Album Leaf and Sea Wolf at the Great American Music Hall on Friday.

For more Bay Area shows, go to epic sauce. Or for more Bay Area music news, click the Links tab and there’s a plethora of great websites to choose from.

I’ll be in touch…

The Album Leaf, Midlake, Jonah Matranga/Kevin Second Split

Monday, January 4th, 2010

It’s been a while since 2006 and it’s about time Jimmy LaValle got back on the horse and started making music again. After hearing some of the new tunes at the Bottom of the Hill show last year, I was already excited to hear what else he had to provide. Luckily while I was on vacation, he released Falling From The Sun, an echoing and minimalistic vocal track with a bit more harmony than most Album Leaf tracks. This is a nice way to progress for an already gifted musician.

The new album, A Chorus Of Storytellers, will be available on the 2nd of February 2010 on CD, 2x LP, and digital download.

Jonah Matranga and Kevin Seconds recently released a split 7 inch vinyl through Canada’s Blacktop Records on Tuesday, December 22 2009. The vinyl features four brand new previously unreleased songs including Jonah Matranga’s I’ve Always Wanted To Write A Song Commanding People To (Dance!), a goofy dance tune not unlike Jonah’s tendency to get groovy and silly at the same time, the subtle and sweet Daylight by Matranga, Kevin Seconds’ rolling road tune Grip Yr Own and the harmonic and idiosyncratic Life Unknown by Seconds. The limited pressing of 1000 hand-numbered copies are available to purchase in Canada at all records shops through FAB Distribution. It will also be available online at various online outlets including the official Blacktop Records webstore at blacktoprecords.ca and interpunk.com.

Something I Made A While Ago

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

Back 2006 I put together a little video that involved me sitting at Salisbury Beach in Massachusetts for a few hours recording a fall day at the beach. It opens with a quote from author Anne Morrow Lindbergh and proceeds to show you the gorgeous New England coast to the tune of The Album Leaf. Hope you enjoy…
