In a unique yet slightly predictable departure from their usual indie prog-rock sound, Paulson goes for the Killers-esqe synth-rock with their new demo, Chances. You know, the genre that has been becoming the new alternative rock over the past few years. Whether or not this is where the band belongs is beyond me right now. I’m not sure how I feel about this demo just yet. I’m still attached to their last full length, All at Once and it’s prog-pop feel. I guess I might have to hear what else they have in store before I give this song a chance.

I could have easily posted a Sufjan Stevens holiday tune or Rilo Kiley belting out Xmas Cake, but I opted to dig within by X-mas music library (that fact that I have a X-mas music library scares me too) and found a few you people might find heartwarming…or at least tolerable.
The City on Film – O Holy Blanket
Thunderbirds are Now! – Christmas in Hollis
Amanda Rogers – I’ll Be Home For Christmas
Paulson – White Christmas (Feat. House of Fools)
Tom Waits – Christmas Card From a Hooker In Minneapolis (my personal favorite)
