According to many reports, dredg’s upcoming hometown shows at the Great American Music Hall tonight, Bimbo’s 365 Club tomorrow, and The Catalyst on Thursday will feature some very special guests including Ben Henderson of The Good Hustle, members of Trophy Fire, Judgement Day, From Monument to Masses as well as others that contributed to their latest masterpiece, The Pariah, The Parrot, The Delusion. The record is being released on the 9th of June but has already generated rave reviews and is being labeled as the record dredg was always meant to create. Since 1999, the band has captivated audiences across the globe with their unique brand of experimental rock while still keeping it accessible. From the atmospheric metal tendencies of Leitmotif, the sleepy soundscapes of El Cielo, to 2005’s heavy yet tuneful Catch Without Arms, dredg has shown they are a band that believes in evolving their sound while making it seem effortless. Their complex, often dreamlike music works very well because dredg doesn’t rush anything; their songs move swiftly with attention paid throughout to musical texture and mood. The band’s chemistry and ability to make jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring, thought-provoking music in unquestionable.
You can catch dredg with Torche and Judgement Day (among many other guests) at the venues above as well as two Troubadour shows in West Hollywood this weekend. More tour dates are available here.
To kick off their hometown shows, bassist/keyboardist Drew Roulette swings by the Kata Rokkar to answer this week’s Kuestionnaire and release a surprise to those of you attending the Great American Music Hall show (be warned).

When I ask a band to do a Kuestionnaire, they usually designate one individual to answer all the questions. Every once in a while I’ll get two band members, but that’s about it. Boy Crisis however, went above and beyond. All five of the guys answered, which makes this one of the most unique Kuestionnaires ever. But that is what Boy Crisis is about; going above and beyond the staple “Brooklyn Band” label and taking it to the next level. Even when Pitchfork calls them the “absolute worst band in the world right now” (they obviously haven’t seen this), Boy Crisis rises above and signs themselves to B-Unique Records. They’re currently working on their wacky rock-dance-electro-disco album right now and will be touring the UK from February ’til March.

There weren’t many albums released this year that even resembled the badshit insane sound coming from The Mae Shi’s Hlllyh. Well ladies and gentlemen, this internet age has found it’s marching band. The LA band has been rocking their brand of fuck-you-sideways electro-spazz for the past six years and from the looks of it, aren’t going anywhere but up. They have already secured themselves on a few top 10 records of 2008 lists (mine included) and have become very well known for their frantic and energetic live shows. We’ll see what the new year holds for this bizarre and super fun band.
Upcoming Shows
Dec 11 2008 8:00P
NYU (Kimmel Center’s Eisner & Lubin Auditorium)
New York City, New York
Dec 12 2008 8:00P

The anticipation of dredg’s 4th full length album is beyond comprehension at this point. With a few leaked live tracks and the ‘leaflet’ series of studio videos, dredg has only themselves to blame for the hype on their upcoming masterpiece. Listening to the live tracks and the recent studio footage, one could hear that the new record sounds like a mix of the critically acclaimed El Cielo and the somewhat commercially successful Catch Without Arms. But I could be totally wrong. dredg’s experimentation can often be unpredictable…which makes this upcoming release all the more exciting. Well we have no name for the record yet and no release date, but lead vocalist Gavin Hayes decided to answer the Kuestionnaire and shed some light on what he’s been up to and probably give the best answer to question #8 so far.
