Judgement Day is back with this utterly out of control Guitar Hero-themed video featuring the likes of Paul Rust (I Love You, Beth Cooper), Josh “Ponceman” Perry (Retarded Policeman), Matt Braunger, Josh Fadem (30 Rock), Matt Cornell (Extreme Elvis), BJ Averell (winner, The Amazing Race) and a shitload more. Also, their new album, Peacocks / Pink Monsters, is currently available for download right here and will be available in physical form April 13th.

In addition, Judgement Day will be rocking Noise Pop 2010 Friday February 26th at the Bottom of the Hill with Scissors for Lefty, Ghost and the City and Glaciers. One more thing, the band will be hosting a Peacocks / Pink Monsters Art Show and Listening Party at the Space Gallery in San Francisco on the 5th of March. Artwork will be on display from Judgement Day’s upcoming sophomore album as well as other works by Ryan Noble, Emilee Seymore and Shawn Harris. While Judgement Day will not be performing, expect Peacocks / Pink Monsters to be playing at high volume. And believe me, I have already listened to it plenty of times and it is worthy of high volume (devil horns).

Judgement Day’s Dark Opus Anniversary Show is Tonight! Winner of Contest Announced!

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

We at Kata Rokkar would like to congratulate Alice Kao for winning two tickets to tonight’s 5th Anniversary Show for Judgement Day’s debut album, Dark Opus. Below is out top 4 submissions along with our 1st place winner’s epic description.

#1brutal searing power [demonic speed + agility] / [raw metal -
exorcism] + imagination [emotion + improvisation] + melancholic heart
of darkness = unhinged explosions of radiant elemental majesty +
[drops of delicate transcendence] ^ innovation = massive,
soul-splitting sonic masterpieces burning with epic intensity and
beauty = string metal with no limitations = 100% Judgement Day.

By Alice Kao

#2Commercialized music has become the norm for the mediocer artist to measure sucess. These guys have surpassed any measurement that is refered to as “good music” and set a new standard for me in what i expect at a live concert. they are the equivilent to a music score of high quality where words are not needed and only emotions remain. they touch your inner soul and accelarate your feelings, and are able to transport you to a moment of deep sadness or deception or frustracion in some said moment of your life.

#3An ice cold glass of medieval death lemonade.

#4It’s like military music, but different…
By Russell Boltwood

Thanks to all that submitted and hope to see you at Annie’s Social Club at 8:30pm tonight. Tickets are a pocket friendly $7.

Kata Rokkar’s Judgement Day Ticket Giveaway!

graphic by Imerr

Five years ago in November, string metal juggernauts Judgement Day released their first full-length record entitled Dark Opus. While many other acts have covered traditional metal songs with strings, Judgement Day went out on their own and created a paralyzingly haunting first album of original songs. When I first bought Dark Opus, I had seen them open for atmospheric rock band dredg and space rockers Telescreen out in Hartford, CT over a year ago. Their intense and unique stage presence forced me to purchase the album. Since then I have caught the band live over five times and listen to Dark Opus frequently. While the album is amazing, it does not do the band justice. Seeing them live is what Judgement Day is all about. That is why with their new record coming out early next year, the band has reported that they will not be playing Dark Opus songs anymore. So to celebrate the album that kick started a legend of fans all over the world and a foundation to build upon, Judgement Day will be playing the album in full without stops for the last time. Also, they will have music video projections for every song on the record while they play. This show is not only a must for fans of Judgement Day, but for fans of true musicianship and performance. Also for people who just want to rock-the-fuck-out!

To celebrate this event, we will be giving away two tickets to whoever best describes Judgement Day’s music. The rules are simple; email katarokkarblog [at] gmail] [dot] com with the subject “Judgement Day Tickets!”, then describe what Judgement Day’s music sounds like to you. The winner will receive 2 free tickets to the show on Thursday, November 19th with fellow string metal act Grayceon and La Fin Du Monde at Annie’s Social Club. Only ages 21+ can enter! Submissions are due by 11:59pm, November 16th.

For more information or questions contact us regarding the contest.

Good luck!

This Week In Bay Area Live Shows: July 28th – Aug 1st

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

We’re back from Comic-Con 2009! And holy shit what a journey of epic proportions. I’ll be posting pictures and a day to day “what happened” in the near future (probably tomorrow). But for now lets go over the last week of July and what is the August concert season.

Tonight, Band Of Skulls conquer Café du Nord. I’d love to go to this but I’m suffering from a slight cold. BUT these guys fucking rock. Check’em out.

Monday is Spinnerette (ex-Distillers) at the Great American Music Hall, Glasvegas rocks out at The Regency Ballroom, Mika Miko, Judgement Day and Audacity play the Nickel City Arcade in San Jose, and the New York Night Train’s SAN FRANCISCO SOUL CLAP and Dance Off which is a underground retro dance-off featuring Jello Biafra (Dead Kennedys, Alternative Tentacles), Cinnamon (Lusty Lady), Kimberly Chun (SF Bay Guardian ), Dave Katznelson (Birdman Records), Jay Howell (Mtn St Mtn), Primo (Oldies Night), Prince$$ Pandora (Lusty Lady), Paul Costuros (Death Sentence Panda, Saturday Soul Party), Jennifer Maerz ( SF Weekly ) and DJ MR. JONATHAN TOUBIN at the Elbo Room at 9pm.

Tuesday has Jarvis Cocker keeping it real at the Fillmore and the Noisettes tearing it up at the Rickshaw Stop.

Wednesday only has Magnolia Electric Co. and The Donkeys at the Bottom of the Hill (which I highly recommend).

Thursday is psychedelic rock act The Warlocks, The Morning After Girls and Gliss at the Bottom of the Hill, Gomez at the Fillmore, and Or, The Whale, El Olio Wolof, Mikael Jorgensen of Wilco at Starry Plough in Oakland.

Friday hosts Portland spazz rock band The Hospitals and the ganglians at Amnesia…and that’s it for Friday….hrm.

However, Saturday has Themselves at the Bottom of the Hill, Stellastarr and Mason Proper at Slim’s, and The Deli Magazine’s DORKFEST 09 hosts the best in Bay Area bands featuring The Heavenly States, 60 watt kid, French Miami, railcars, Anderson Congress and Vitiligo at Café du Nord.

I’ll try to make the Themselves show and the Magnolia Electric Co. show, but it’s a pretty empty week overall. See you out there!
