About Kata Rokkar
The name Kata Rokkar derives from a song by the Icelandic sensation, Björk. No, I’m not one bit Icelandic. However, I am obviously a huge fan of her work.
Kata Rokkar is a Bay Area based music blog that started as a hobby and a way to tell people about music I was into. It has now become a daily thing for me to share music with people that enjoy it as much as I do. Over the past year we have grown from a lowly music blog to one of the Bay Area’s premier music websites. We’ve covered events like the Treasure Island Music Festival [website credit] and Outside Lands Music Festival and have interviewed artists like Henry Rollins, Girl Talk, and Panda Bear of Animal Collective.
Feel free to download the mp3s hosted on this site but be aware that these artists need to make a living. So go to their shows and buy their records, digitally or physically. Please support this music community. Oh and tell them I sent you.
Kuestionnaire - The Kuestionnaire is a series of fifteen normal questions for an artist to answer that cover favorite local bands to what they are currently reading. Kuestionnaires are normally featured on Tuesdays and have been answered by the likes of Panda Bear from Animal Collective, Gavin Hayes of dredg, Jeremy Enigk, Dan Deacon, and Girl Talk’s Greg Gillis, among many others. If you are an artist or a record label, feel free to fill one out in the contact page. We will let you know when it’s posted.
If You Could See This Song – This segment consists of a photograph or painting from an artist I admire paired with an instrumental song that I believe represents that picture. It is how the title suggests; if you could see the song, this is what I think you would see. These are posted completely at random and are usually done twice a month.
This Week In Bay Area Live Shows – Pretty self explanatory. Every Sunday I highlight the best of Bay Area live shows and give the rundown on who I would recommend to see that coming week. I usually like to post songs from local acts that I believe have potential.
In addition, I promote visual artists. While this is primarily a music website, I will once in a while post art from someone I believe has a lot of potential.
To bands and labels;
I want to hear your music! However, I’m not on the computer 24-7 and I get a buttload of emails in regards to band promotion. If you aren’t seeing your band on my site, it may be that I am busy or that your band isn’t really that good to begin with. No offense. One email will suffice, please don’t send reminders. If I do post about your band/artist, I will send a reply that I have posted about them and I’d be appreciated if you do me a favor and post it on your website, my-book, face-space, etc. The music business is all about scratching each others back, right?
If you are a record company that is upset with a song that I have posted; no not hesitate to email me first regarding the matter. I will without question remove it from my site.
Lastly, if you enjoy or dislike what I post, tell me! I love positive input and do not get offended by constructive criticism. Keep me in the loop. Also, if you think a friend may like this site, tell them and everyone you know. The more the merrier.
I hope you enjoy yourself here.
Be well,
Shawn
