Diego Bernal shows us his ‘For Corners’
16February2009
Upon listening to For Corners, the first full length album from San Antonio, TX civil rights attorney and beatsmith Diego Bernal, one might get the sense that there is much more going on here than just a love for hip hop simplicity. Combining the smoothness of J Dilla-like laid back grooves and a gentle touch of latin flavor, For Corners might be this year’s Oxperiment (Oh No) or Los Angeles (Flying Lotus). What impresses me is his unique diversity and the many moods that he covers throughout the album. He is not simply a Madlib clone, he has own voice, and his style is a throwback to the classic hip hop sound with a nice bit of southern soul.
For Corners will be available at iTunes on Feb 24th for $1.99
